Cork's Vienna Woods Hotel & Villas

I came to Cork recently for one night and was directed to Vienna Woods because it was nearest to where I needed to be. Booking was easy, and the staff were a pleasure to deal with over the phone. They called ahead to explain that winter renovations had put some rooms out of action, so I'd get an upgrade, but that there was a mark on the wall. They asked if that was okay. Their standards must be higher than mine, because I couldn't find any mark. The room was lovely, with a comfortable bed. There was no view, but I didn't mind since I arrived after dark and left early. The bathroom and shower were a highlight. There's no bathtub, just a shower. I forgot my toothbrush, and the night manager kindly brought an amenity kit to my room, even after I offered to come down for it. Just two small breakfast gripes: I tried all the juices and didn't like any of them, and the vegetarian choices were only okay. I'm not vegetarian, but my wife and daughter are. Both things should be easy to fix.

The worst experience in Ireland. I booked a night almost a week ahead, only to discover on the day that my reservation had disappeared, with no alternative offered. I was very disappointed by the service, the lack of hospitality, and especially the way manager Renata handled it. The rooms and building may be amazing, but if the staff don't meet the standards, the experience can't be good.

The staff I met across reception, housekeeping, the restaurant, and the bar were all friendly, attentive, and excellent at their jobs. Breakfast at Mabel's Bistro was delicious, with a lovely menu, hot dishes cooked to order, and a gluten-free selection. I had other arrangements for lunch and dinner. I had a gorgeous, comfortable room in the 400 range, away from the main activity so it was very peaceful. The hotel itself is beautiful. The bar is elegant and nicely decorated, with a cosy fire and comfortable places to sit alone or with a group. I was checking in as a Wedding Fair was starting, so we did it to live music! I stayed for two nights in Jan 2026. The hotel is outside Cork city, a perfect spot for a getaway, and especially lovely with its Christmas decorations.

The Mabel Crawford Bistro is beautiful, with fantastic food and even better staff. I was there last night for a birthday meal in the booth and gave five stars for the room, though I only used the restaurant. I've stayed at the hotel before, so I know it's great. 10/10, can't wait to go back.
