The Hatch Rooms

Unacceptable. My clothes and toothbrush disappeared from the room while I was away on a trip on the second day of my two-night stay. I still haven’t got my pants and leggings back. The cleaner returned the sweatshirt and T-shirt I’d neatly left on the table, crumpled in a bag. When I spoke to staff, I got the impression people lose things here all the time and that they have plenty in stock. Even though I was clearly upset, nobody could find the pants and leggings. I paid less than four thousand for an unpleasant, frustrating stay and lost two items of clothing plus a few small things because of the staff. The staff’s attitude and behaviour were appalling. I’ll never stay here again and honestly can’t recommend it.

The rooms were unbearably hot, even though it was 17 degrees outside the whole time we were there. I can’t imagine what they’d be like in warm weather. The place was clean and nice otherwise, and the staff were really nice. It’s in a great location and a good price for Cork. I’d stay again, but probably only in winter because of the heat.

The staff at Hatch were nice, and I can’t thank Emma enough for her kind help. There’s an Aldi nearby, which is super convenient for groceries. I stayed here for three months while doing my Erasmus at UCC. My room was spacious, with a large bed, though the mattress bounced a lot. I booked a golden room, which included a kitchen and living room shared with three other students. The kitchen had all sorts of appliances, but for cooking we relied on pans and cutlery left by other students. Being on the ground floor, my room sometimes felt short on light. UCC is 20-25 minutes away on foot. There are bus stops nearby, but I never used them because the buses are terrible. Ireland has some of the most irregular and slow buses I know. I’d recommend the place if you’re considering a stay in Cork and want to be close to the city centre. As others have mentioned, things can break down now and then.

Worst place. All three of us had severe back pain, and the staff wouldn’t help, saying they “can't do anything about anything.” The rooms are really noisy, especially from cars on the street. It’s ugly, and in case of a fire, the layout is so confusing you wouldn’t find your way out.
