We walked into town three times, about 30 minutes each way, though there’s a bus if you’d rather take it. Driving takes around five minutes, and a taxi was €9. A mini-market nearby was handy for breakfast, coffee and stocking the fridge. The reception team were friendly and efficient, and parking underground was free with no reservation needed. We had three rooms, which meant the whole apartment was ours, including a kitchen and small sitting area. The en-suite rooms are comfortable and available to tourists during university summer holidays. Both the apartment and each bedroom lock separately, and you need a code to enter the grounds and buildings, which felt secure. There’s also a ground-floor laundry, paid for through an app.

It was reasonably clean, and the staff were polite. There’s a convenience store nearby and a shared kitchen, and the location works if you’re visiting UCC. But I value being able to sleep, and I wouldn’t stay here again. Noise was the real problem. Large school groups arrived at all hours, shouting and playing music. Doors slammed through the night, and they don’t close quietly because there’s no insulation or dampening. The blinds also didn’t shut properly, so privacy was limited. On a few nights there was drunken shouting, singing and loud music, which made things really tough. The bathroom was awkward to use, and the water never got hot.

The staff were friendly, professional and helpful, and the location was fine for getting into town. The room was basic, and the shower did eventually get hot after a few minutes. You get what you pay for, I suppose, and I won’t be staying again. I’d rather spend €20 more on a decent B&B. My room faced the main road. Since it was Saturday night, cars spinning their tires and loud motorcycles kept making noise until 3 a.m. A room away from the road might be much better. I also couldn’t sleep because of noise from the room opposite until about 4:30. That part wasn’t the venue’s fault.

There’s a shortage of apartments, rooms and houses in Cork city, unfortunately, so if you can get a room here, grab one. It’s a lovely place for students. Victoria Mills deserves five stars, and staying there took me back to the past and made me think about my review.

I booked and paid in advance for three nights from June 10, 2025, because my son was having a brain tumour removed. When I arrived at Victoria Mills, they told me I’d be sharing with three others, despite booking single accommodation. The man at reception saw how upset I was and apparently changed it to the single room I’d already booked and paid for. He said night security would let me in if I arrived late. I tried to get the updated booking details but was ignored. I arrived late last night and nobody answered the listed security numbers, so I slept in my car in the CUH car park. I’ve paid for accommodation there tonight too, but no one will reply to me.
