The island's gorgeous scenery and hundreds of seals made the whole stay feel surreal. We ended up staying two nights because the boat couldn't collect us on the second day, and it was about the best delay we could have had. Being cut off from electricity and making do with what we'd brought was quite an experience, one we'd almost forgotten was possible. Loved every minute, and the two caretakers, James and his wife, were wonderful.

I've stayed on Great Blasket Island at least once a year for the past four years, and every visit has been rewarding. The island has so much Irish culture and lore, and the scenery is breathtaking. Staying overnight is a must if you want to take in its grandeur, explore, sit and enjoy the views, and have nearly the whole island to yourself. The cottages are comfortable and well appointed, with thoughtful amenities, though there is no electricity or hot water. Billy, Alice and their caretakers are attentive, responsive and kind. I highly recommend a stay here.

I've travelled to about 90 countries, and a stay on the Blaskets is still one of the best things you can do. A group of nurse friends and I have been here two years running. I loved seeing the younger nurses get excited about having no electricity and a break from their phones. We played frisbee on the beach with seals watching, then had board games and whiskey by candlelight. This feels like a real part of Ireland, far from the tacky tourist spots scattered around the country. Booking was simple, the hosts were quick to respond, and the island is exceptionally well maintained and clean. Can't recommend it enough. Stay here, trust me, it's deadly.

Walking around the island with only sheep for company, then seeing the seal colony on the beach, left us feeling relaxed and refreshed. Staying in Peig Sayers House on the Great Blasket Island was a lovely, one-of-a-kind experience with beautiful views. Thanks to Alice and Billy, who were great to deal with, and to Sean and Chris on the boat for being informative and good humoured. James and Camile, this year's island caretakers, were also very hospitable. Thank you all.

Living on an island for a couple of nights was special, especially after reading the novel 'Peig' at school. We had plenty of time to explore and relax during our two-night stay. The cottage was basic but clean and cosy, with everything we needed, fuel for the stove, and a gas hob and oven. Its view across to the mainland was amazing. The boat picked us up on time at Dunquinn Pier, and the lads aboard were friendly and capable. After a lovely crossing, Darren met us and showed us to the cottage. We'd brought our supplies, but Darren and Emma were next door if we'd forgotten or needed anything.
