Maldron Hotel Smithfield Dublin City

The city centre was just a short walk away, and I'd stay here again if I visit Dublin. The room was clean, big enough for our needs, and staff were always happy to help. We had a quadruple room for me, my sisters, and our mum. Check-in, checkout, and collecting the key cards were easy, and storing our luggage until the room was ready was simple too. There wasn't enough tea, coffee, sugar, and milk for everyone, though I'm sure they'd have brought more if we'd asked. We didn't eat at the hotel, so I can't comment on the food.

We ended up in a room with a balcony, and it was large compared with other places we've stayed in Europe. It was clean, and the bathroom was big. The downside was the high-sided tub for showering and no central air. The front desk was fabulous, the restaurant wait staff were very accommodating, and even the maids were nice. For an Irish breakfast, prepaying for the buffet is actually cheaper at $15pp, and it includes everything with options to customize. The Smithfield stop for the tram is right nearby. If you walk briskly, O'connell st is about 15 minutes away, I timed it! The cobblestone pub is across the street for pints and live music. We had a great stay.

The restaurant at the hotel was quite expensive, so we used the deli-style shop next door instead. It sells breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and worked well when we wanted something quick. The hotel itself was great, in a superb location, with welcoming, helpful staff and a spacious, clean room.

The breakfast was delicious, with a wide selection of hot food, fruit and yogurt with toppings, pastries, breads, tea, juices, and a coffee bar. The women in the dining room were gracious and helpful. Definitely get the breakfast. The rooms were comfortable, with all the in-room amenities and safety access. Staff were kind and helpful, and there are automated systems when reception is busy. It's a good neighborhood, about a 10-minute walk to o'connell and the shopping districts, with train access and a playground in the courtyard outside.
