Treacy's West County Conference & Leisure Centre

We asked for a twin room and ended up with a double bed plus two singles, which I couldn't make sense of. The room itself badly needs updating: the toilet was so close to the wall that it was uncomfortable to sit on, and the sink taps were corroded and broken. We were offered another room, but some of our group had no hot water and others couldn't turn off their radiators in 20-degree heat, so they needed the change more than we did. We were travelling as a large coach group, and meal service also needs attention. The food came out one course at a time, then the vegetables, so some people's meals went cold. Serving one table at a time would have worked better. To be fair, the staff were friendly and helpful.

The rooms looked lovely and clean, but the rest was disappointing. Breakfast was basic, and the staff were awful. When I handed back the keys, the staff member had food in her mouth and said nothing about our stay or wishing us a safe journey. I didn't meet a single nice staff member. The menus were sticky, the chairs stained, and the place is very run down.

It was a sad experience. The chicken wings we eventually got weren't nice, and we didn't want to use the food vouchers for the bar because that food wasn't nice either. At the bar and restaurant, the staff weren't friendly or helpful. We waited around half an hour to place a food order, then got up to ask at the bar and were told they only took drink orders there. I did speak with a manager, who was very kind and helpful, but that was our last night there.

We felt embarrassed and degraded after being made to eat outside, like second-class citizens. My pregnant wife, our two children and I were refused food service because of what we believe was clear racial discrimination against us as Travellers. The doorman, Kazeem, was particularly racist and played a key part in the humiliating refusal. The discrimination was shocking and unacceptable. Avoid this hotel at all costs.
