Galway City Hostel & Bar

A really welcoming, clean hostel, right in the heart of Galway's tourist area. We had a private four-bed room with two bunk beds and a shared bathroom and shower. The common area has everything a traveler might need. The man at reception was lively and easy to talk to, and gave us a map marked with places playing traditional Irish music, just as we'd asked. My family's bunks were fine, though my mattress dipped in the middle and was a bit uncomfortable. Given the price, cleanliness and location, it wasn't a big complaint. Everything is walkable, and the bus station is literally next door. There's also a big parking lot next door, at 12 euro per 24 hours. The walls are thin: a woman cackling woke us around 1am, but when we politely let her know, she stopped and apologized. Bars stay open until 3am, so younger crowds can get loud. We left early and missed breakfast, but the 24/7 coffee and tea were lovely for us early risers. We'd definitely stay again if we're in town.

I'm genuinely sad to leave after an amazing two weeks at Galway City Hostel. The people there were incredible. Tom, Maura and Leah were friendly and helpful, and made a big part of why I loved the stay. As a solo traveler, the pub crawls held five times a week helped me feel comfortable and brought guests together. The location is perfect, right on Eyre Square and close to all the Galway pubs. Showers had good to great pressure and stayed hot. I have no negatives, and I'll be back as soon as I can.

The rooms and bathrooms were clean and had everything needed, and the hostel is only a two minute walk from the train and bus station. The free breakfast was amazing, with fresh bread made daily, plus complimentary coffee, chai, hot chocolate and tea. Tom brought guests together and introduced people, then organized a group pub crawl. He created a real sense of community in the common area, made people feel comfortable chatting, and was attentive to everyone's safety and possible issues. I'd highly recommend staying here. Jasmine and Tom made the place feel welcoming, and they knew Galway so well. I met loads of lovely people there, and they even sorted out a gluten-free breakfast option for me. The rooms were tidy, and the bathrooms were clean and roomy. Such a good hostel for travelling solo, 10/10.
