For what we paid, I expected something more decent than a 1970s room over a pub. The rooms were worn, and the first one smelled like a dump, even with a humidifier running, so we had to ask to change rooms. There was still a dirty-carpet smell, and a bad dump smell in the toilet. The shower made a turbo-engine noise, the basin was beside the window rather than in the toilet, and the room photos didn’t show what it was really like. The bed mattress was comfortable, but the headboard was broken. Breakfast was basic, though the staff were friendly. Noise from the back garden carried on late.

The host was so friendly and welcoming, and the room was clean and smelled nice. It’s about a 10-minute walk to the westend, and great value for money. I don’t understand the bad reviews.

Wards Pub has a nice mix of people and a good range of drinks. The bar staff are always on the ball, and the atmosphere is especially good on a sunny day. I always enjoy it there.

The staff were very friendly, and breakfast was actually quite good. The city is about a 1 km walk away, which is perfect. But the room felt extremely old and run down, even though it was mostly clean. There was old dust hanging from the ceiling lamp. The stairs smelled like garbage, and upstairs had a strange mix of old-people smell and strong chemicals. The radiator was also much too hot and hard to adjust. At 150 euro, it didn’t feel worth the price, and I don’t think I’ll stay again.

The room had everything we needed, and the bar downstairs felt warm and welcoming. It’s a simple, modest place, and an easy walk into Galway city centre.
