Glengarriff Park Hotel

We were tired enough that we slept well, though the beds weren't especially comfortable. The room was fine for one night, but dated, with a very old carpet. I also found the heavy duvet uncomfortable, since I tend to either freeze or roast. There was good parking at the back, and the hotel had wash cloths, a decent breakfast selection, and a lift, which many places we stayed didn't have. Getting luggage from the back meant going through a locked dining area, the dining room, double doors, and then the lobby, which was awkward. It would have helped to have two key cards, since removing the one card turned off all the power and left me in the bathroom in the dark. The liquid soap dispenser was strange and very hard to squeeze.

The quick service and lovely staff couldn't make up for how disappointing the food was. My mother and I stopped on the way to a forest. She paid €22 for her dish, and I spent €18 on an open prawn sandwich. It felt like everything had come straight from the freezer. The prawns were barely warm, and the soda bread had no butter, with only what looked like lettuce and no dressing or anything else. My mother's fish was like fish nuggets, possibly warmed in an air fryer.

The receptionist gave us a warm welcome, and the location is great as a gateway to the Beara Peninsula. The cooked breakfast could have been better, but I'd definitely stay again.

This family-run hotel is right in the heart of Glengarriff, steps from local attractions like the Blue Pool and the ferry to Garnish Island. The bar and restaurant have a cozy, welcoming feel, and the food was delicious. What really stayed with me was how far the staff went to help: when shoe polish wasn't available locally, they drove to the next town to find some for me. Comfortable rooms, great service, and genuine Irish hospitality. Highly recommend!
