Silken Thomas

I've visited Silken Thomas several times with friends, and recently with my fiancée too. It's a really lovely place for a meal, with delicious food every time. The steaks are amazing. Mine was perfectly medium rare, and my fiancée said his rare steak was the best he'd ever had. The fries were fluffy and crispy. We also had spicy chicken wings with blue cheese sauce and desserts, and can warmly recommend them all. The staff are lovely and helpful with recommendations. On a weekday you barely have to wait for food. We were looked after by a super dark haired older lady. There are loads of tables in the very big venue, so it works for a couple or a larger party.

Had a full breakfast, a pancake stack, coffee and tea for €27. Very reasonable. The food was gorgeous, and the staff were efficient and friendly with excellent customer service. Really lovely restaurant, I'll definitely return.

We wanted one night away together, just the two of us, after the Christmas rush, and chose Silken Thomas after looking at nearby boutique hotels and reading reviews. It turned out to be a great little escape. Kildare Village is just a 10-minute walk away, handy for a wander and the post-Christmas sales, and we got to relax and recharge. Our room was clean, spacious and warm. It faced the main road, though, so on a typical Saturday night we could hear cars, horns and the general street bustle. Next time we'll ask for a room at the back. That didn't spoil the stay. The staff were all polite, friendly and welcoming, and check-in and check-out were straightforward. You just leave the key card in the box by the entrance or exit. We booked dinner at the restaurant because it was a busy Saturday and didn't want to risk missing a table. The food was very good and plentiful. We might try Hartes of Kildare next time, since it also gets excellent reviews, just to compare. We’d happily come back. It was a fantastic break from home.

The staff were brilliant and really helpful, the food was fantastic, and the location was great. My wife and I had an amazing time, and the room was excellent. Thanks so much for looking after us. We'll definitely be back.
