Fanad House Bed & Breakfast

The room was fairly large and reasonably clean, but I wouldn’t return or recommend the place. Staff were difficult to reach before the trip and in person during business hours. Our assigned room had poor ventilation and was overheated, with no way to adjust the temperature apart from opening a small window. There were spots of mold in a bathroom corner, and the mattress was too soft to be comfortable.

The room was exceptionally clean, which I really appreciated as someone with a dust mite allergy who usually struggles in carpeted rooms. The pillows were immaculate, soft, fluffy, and very comfortable. Breakfast was another highlight: generous and filling enough that we skipped lunch. Fanad House is right across from Kilkenny Castle Park, convenient for a visit, and my daughter loved spending time there. It attracts plenty of tourists, but the B&B’s side of the park stays quiet and peaceful. We had a stressful start, though. My toddler needed a bath, and the water came out dirty and yellow. We drained and refilled the tub several times, but it stayed the same. After the fourth try, I told the staff, who then mentioned recent maintenance on the water pipes. My child was already tired and crying by then, and it took nearly an hour to get water that was somewhat clean. The room stayed warm all night because the window wouldn’t open wide enough for cool air, so it wasn’t restful. A shelf or counter in the bathroom would be useful for toiletries. A ceiling fan or stronger portable fan might help too, especially when the windows can’t open wider for ventilation.

The room was clean and had cups for tea, which I appreciated. Pat was friendly, thoughtful and helpful, and breakfast was yummy 😋. I’d stay here again.

The rooms at Fanad House were spacious and really comfortable, though they got quite hot and could use a fan or air conditioning. The location worked perfectly for us, about a 14-minute walk into town and right across from Kilkenny castle. Breakfast was a highlight: the owners will cook what you like alongside the buffet, so I’d definitely add it to your room. We had an amazing stay!
