3 Lakes Hostel

The parking was excellent, with lots of space, and the rooms were fine with comfortable beds. On the night we arrived, 25/08, the man at reception was awful. We were all sure he was high. He rushed through the details and hardly explained anything. The girl at the desk the next morning was much nicer. I asked for towels and she brought some over quickly, including an extra one.

The staff were nice, but the breakfast was very basic: toast, jam and just three kinds of cereal. Other food could be kept in the fridge. The breakfast room was far too small for all the guests, and my room had nowhere to put or hang clothes, like a closet. Over a six-day stay, that made things a bit messy.

The beds were clean, and the rooms had decent space between them. There was also a useful kitchen and lockers under the beds for bags. But the rest of the hostel didn't feel very clean. The floors were dirty, old rubbish was still on the windowsill, and the bathrooms didn't even have basics like hand soap or towels. It was okay as hostels go.

A reservation issue with Hostelword meant my booking hadn't gone through at the "3 Lakes Hostel". The woman at reception was kind and found me an extra bed, even though the room was full. Thanks again! I'd been nervous after seeing some bad comments, but I had a good stay. The room was quiet and clean, and the kitchen was available all day. The price was really nice. It's about a 20-minute straight walk to the town centre, so it's not right in the middle of town. Breakfast didn't have much choice, but for this price it was already great to have bread, marmalade, juice, tea and coffee.
