The International Hotel Killarney

I love that the Bar serves Murphy's Red, and the staff are so nice. I travel to Killarney once or twice a year and have stayed in many hotels, but The International is by far the best. The room was spacious, the bed very comfortable, and the shower great. My one downside was that the room was incredibly warm and there was no way to turn the heating off. I’d suggest putting a Smart TV in every room, like most other Hotels do.

We had a lovely family getaway, and the hotel and staff were lovely. The food was great too. We had a table booked in the bar and paid for our drinks as we went, but the bill included a round for another table, 40 euro, and a side order we hadn’t had. We pointed it out to a lady in a suit, who took the items off and apologized. I do think she could have offered something for the mistake. Still, the staff were lovely and the food was lovely.

This is my first review after all these years, and I mean it from the heart. I’ve visited the international Hotel in the heart of Killarney with my golf friends for thirty three years in succession. It has to be one of the most welcoming hotels around. The staff are so friendly, and the rooms are comfortable. Breakfast is something to look forward to, and the meals are superb, very high quality and the best priced compared with restaurants around. There’s no need to look elsewhere, there’s nothing better. The hotel’s old-world luxury was a real highlight. Warm colors, dark woods, red carpets, quiet cozy spaces, a grand staircase, and a fireplace in the social room made it feel elegant and inviting, almost like staying inside the Titanic. Our room was spacious, the beds comfortable, and it overlooked the front of the hotel. The view was pleasant, and it wasn’t noisy despite being on a main road. There’s no AC, but they provide a fan. The bathroom had good counter space, though the small moveable shower partitions didn’t keep water off the floor very well. The TVs were basic cable, and I wish they had casting or streaming. Breakfast was good, and the servers were friendly and accommodating. Before our stay, we got emails recommending we book breakfast times. I usually prefer not to, and on one morning our requested time was supposedly full, yet the room wasn’t even half sat on either morning. Maybe booking is more useful during busy travel periods. Some reception staff were more welcoming than others. Location-wise, it’s easy to walk to all of downtown’s shops, restaurants, and pubs, and the public car park the hotel recommends is a short walk away. It’s uphill from the hotel, which makes luggage difficult at checkout. Parking is affordable, though there’s no discount. Unloading was a hassle too. There’s a public seating area on the main road in front, so you can’t stop right outside the hotel. The unloading space just before it was taken by delivery vans and trucks, as we saw at several hotels. We circled nearly 5 times before finding a parking space up the road to unload. Killarney was one of our favorite stops on a two week, 9-city drive around Ireland, and we stayed here for two nights in a twin room. A random but big plus for me was the water bottle fill station in the lobby. Every hotel should have one nowadays. Overall, a great stay, and we’d certainly return.
