I've heard lovely stories and reviews about the Purple Heather B & B for years, and would have loved to stay there. I was really disappointed that I couldn't get in touch to arrange a booking, so I had to stay somewhere else in Kerry. That place was nice, but I still would have preferred the lovely location, history, and wonderful staff at The Purple Heather B & B. Maybe next time I'm in Kerry I'll have better luck booking!

It's right beside the Gap of Dunloe and well placed for the other attractions, the Ring of Kerry circuit, or a drive around the Dingle peninsula. Of the three days we spent there, we loved every one. This was one of the best B&Bs on our 21-day tour. The hosts have over 20 years of experience and go out of their way to help their residents. They serve a cracking breakfast, the rooms are very clean, the bathrooms are well maintained, and the rooms get a thorough clean while you're out. There's also plenty of parking.

The views are great, and it's a good base for the Ring of Kerry, quite close to the Gap of Dunloe. The man who runs the place with his wife is lovely, friendly, and helpful. We didn't see his wife much during our stay, but I'm sure she's lovely too. The room we had was quite cramped, and the curtains let light through, which isn't ideal in summer. The cooked breakfast is small compared with most B&Bs and won't keep you full long. There was no pudding, just one small sausage, an egg, two rashers, and half a tomato, though there are cereals and toast too. Also, be aware it's cash only. If you want no frills, a good access point to the Ring of Kerry, and don't need a big breakfast, it'll suit you grand.

The owners are warm and welcoming, and good hosts. I stayed two nights with my brother for a weekend of hiking carrantouhill, and this B&B was perfect for us. It's a short drive to Cronins yard, where the hike starts. The rooms were clean and cosy, with comfortable beds, and breakfast was nice. No complaints, I'd happily stay again.

The room was fine and the location was nice, but I had to scramble to find cash because they only accept it. That needs to be clear when booking. The breakfast room also wasn't very warm. As some other reviewers have mentioned, the hosts need to make sure guests are comfortable.
