We met up at Lynhams of Laragh for our monthly catch-up since it’s a handy halfway point for my friends and me. We didn’t stay overnight, just ate in the bar and spent a few hours there. The food was nice, and the serving staff were genuinely warm, lovely and great craic. Parking was easy, too. There’s loads of character throughout the hotel, with unusual paintings and striking sculptures that show the owner’s love of art. It almost feels like a small museum. The bar was busy and noisy, which makes sense for such a popular spot, so we moved to the quieter lobby and could properly enjoy our chat. Laragh is a lovely meeting place, especially with walkers, hikers and bikers passing through, and the good weather made our day even nicer. I’d definitely return for the welcoming people and the character of the place.

We went both Saturday and Sunday for dinner and music while we were in town. The locals we met seemed like legends, and everyone made us feel welcome, almost like family. There were plenty of locals around, and it’s easy to see why this is the place to be. It’s also an easy walk from my guesthouse. We had the specials both times. The buttermilk chicken sandwich was amazing, and I liked the ribs too. The slaw tasted good, though it could use a little more acidity. The chips were some of the best I’ve had on the Emerald Isle. Live music both nights, with Toxic Twins, a trio, on Saturday and a more traditional duo on Sunday. Beer flowed all night. This place is top-notch in every way.

Four of us stopped in for the carvery after visiting Glendalough. The dinner was spot on, the bar staff were welcoming, the Guinness was great, and the pub has a warm, homely country feel. Before we arrived, we’d seen a review about the head chef who serves the carvery. I’m sorry to say it matched our experience. She seemed annoyed to serve us, and the other staff appeared intimidated by her. We tried to chat and smile, but got grunts and glares. She threw your dinner at the poor girl beside her. She really has a face like a smacked you know what, which is sad because she’s letting the side down. I hope everything is okay at home with her.

We were lucky to come across this bar while visiting Glendalough. It’s just a minute from the bus stop, so there’s time to enjoy food and drinks without rushing. Inside was perfectly warm even though it was freezing outside, and the atmosphere was great. The waitress was unbelievably nice, and the prices were very reasonable. I’d recommend listing it on Google as a restaurant and bar as well as a hotel. We were trying to find an alternative to the Glendalough café, but nothing came up. Definitely worth a visit. ❤️🍻

I’ve eaten here six times now, usually on Sundays after a long walk with my elderly dad and my three young kids. The carvery is fairly priced, and we’re always greeted with a friendly smile. I recommend it to friends and family all the time, and I’m already looking forward to coming back in December. We’d eat here more often if we lived nearby. I was shocked to read a review about the carvery chef. That lady is an asset to the business and goes well beyond what’s expected, especially with my special needs daughter, who’s very picky. Nothing is ever a problem for her. I don’t know her name. The young woman at the till is just as friendly and patient.
