The Lagoon Restaurant and Guesthouse

We stopped in after a walk in Ards and were glad we did. The service, food and atmosphere were fantastic. Darragh was really nice and friendly, chatting with us and making us feel welcome. There was a lovely big fire on, and the place was spotless. The toilets were very clean, with plenty of hand wash and hot water. We’ll certainly be back, and I highly recommend the food here.

We liked the traditional atmosphere so much that we came back the next night for dinner. The food was lovely and freshly cooked, and the desserts were sweet and tasty. The barman and server were friendly, lovely and very helpful. There was a nice log fire burning in the background. We’d definitely recommend having dinner here.

The chips could have used a little more cooking, and the mushy peas tasted straight from a tin. The fish was barely there, just a small bit of cod buried under thick batter that was dark brown and so unpleasant I couldn't eat it. It seemed the fish advertised as “freshly battered” had been fried in dirty old oil. We'd already ordered drinks when we noticed how filthy and unpleasant the paper menus were to hold. We should have left, but there wasn't anywhere else to eat nearby at around 8.30pm. We went with fish and chips, thinking it was a safe choice. I rarely leave a bad review because I don't want to hurt a struggling business, but I want others to know what to expect if they really need to eat here.

Nice spot to eat. I'd give the food 8/10, and it's worth stopping in 👍
