Castle View House

The room we stayed in really needs an upgrade. The bedding was very old, the bath towels smelled dry and moldy, probably from being dried outside, and the shower head was yellow and didn’t seem hygienic. My wife wouldn’t shower there for that reason. The shower was hot and clean towels would make a big difference; with some small improvements, it might be okay for a night and a healthy breakfast the next day. As it is now, this place isn’t for me. On the positive side, Samantha was very respectful, the breakfast was cooked fresh and served hot in the dining room, and they provided an extra room heater in case we needed more warmth.

Garret was accommodating and resourceful, and I got a friendly greeting from Roxie, the non-intimidating dog. I ended up with the last room, which looked nothing like the photos and had no windows, but for the price it did the job. The bathroom was neat, though the shower cubicle was small, which I guess is pretty standard for Ireland. The shower pressure was the worst part, it took ages to finish bathing. The mattress was hard and starting to give way. I hope the other rooms are better. The kitchen made a great hot breakfast. It’s a nice place if you’re in the area, especially when the price is right. We booked through Airbnb and had a terrible experience. We arrived late at night, and the listing had said the amenities were available. The washing machine, toaster, and stove didn’t work, and the next day the water was shut off, so we couldn’t shower, use the bathroom, or brush our teeth. There were nine of us, and the owner tried to get us not to report the problem to Airbnb by offering €100. I said I would ask Airbnb for a full refund, and she snatched the cash from my hand and slammed the door in my face. We had to make other arrangements so all nine of us could shower and take care of things. I have more photos, but they’re too gross to post here. Almost everything didn’t work. Airbnb refused to give us a full refund. Beware!

The setting is beautiful and picturesque, though it’s quite remote. You’ll need a car to get to nearby places, shops, and sights. I had a flat tire while I was there, and Gareth did everything he could to help. The hosts were welcoming, friendly, and helpful, and breakfast was plentiful and delicious. It’s a fabulous B&B, and the location is lovely once you’re there. I’d definitely stay again.
