Castle Hotel Macroom

We hadn't booked ahead, but they managed to find us a table. The dinner was beautiful, and the food was excellent. It was nice to see locals there too, chatting warmly with the server. Parking right outside the door was handy. We'll be back!

We had a Friday evening reservation with friends and were seated quickly. The staff were lovely all night, even though the bar and restaurant were busy. The meal was disappointing. My chicken with black pudding and bacon came with mash, though the menu called it champ, and just two pieces of tenderstem broccoli. I wanted more of the broccoli, which was the best thing on the plate. The chicken and bacon were both very dry, the bacon was hard to cut, and the black pudding overwhelmed everything. The mash needed seasoning and the scallions you'd expect in champ. It was a small, uninspiring dinner. Someone else at our table ordered chicken curry, which was very runny and had only a few thin shreds of chicken. We soon heard people at another table asking about the lack of chicken in theirs too. We also found that only some menus came with a specials sheet, so we had to ask staff whether those dishes were actually available. Even with the specials, the choices were limited. This was a letdown at a place that's usually excellent.

The wings were amazing, and I loved the brownie too. The steak sandwich was delicious as well. Really lovely meal!

An iconic hotel with fantastic facilities, great food, and tremendous service. They're always working toward perfection. Keep up the great work.
