Glendine House Kilkenny

Anne took us in at a moment’s notice after another booking let us down, and made a last-minute weekend into one I’ll never forget. My partner and I had a beautiful stay. The staff were generous and accommodated our allergy needs. We’ll definitely return, and I can’t recommend the place highly enough.

There’s plenty of parking, and I understand they also have accommodation. I stopped in for lunch and had the chicken curry with rice and vegetables, since the salmon had already run out at this busy carvery. It was very nice and a good-sized portion. The bar is clean, with lots of room to sit, and the staff were attentive and friendly. I’d recommend it and will come back.

The staff were lovely and friendly, but the food was a disaster and didn’t match the price. I live nearby and had hoped for a nice meal. Instead, the chips, rice and chicken cujons were the worst I’ve ever eaten, and the chicken curry was very poor 😔.

We had to make do with napkins for plates, and sauce was poured onto them because there weren’t any small plates. There were five children with us, but nobody offered water. The food came late, and the sauces arrived only after we’d already started eating. We’d booked finger food and drinks for a group of 14, based on a previous stay, so I expected better. The trestle table had only a small pile of napkins on it, and before we’d even sat down we were asked what drinks we wanted. I worked in establishments in Kilkennyn in the 80s and 90s, and this kind of service would have mortified our management and customers. I’m leaving this review in the hope that pub service can improve and get back to what it was.
