We spent 3.5 wonderful weeks at Rossnaree House with four generations of family, and it felt magical for our 96-year-old mother as well as the little ones. The garden and grounds were a joy, with shady seats and flat walks, including a route to the Boyne river. The children loved visiting the freely roaming ducks, hens, and peacocks. Open views toward Newgrange, Knowth, and the horizon brought a deep sense of peace, as did watching the swallows flying under the roof. There were no mosquitoes, so we could stay outside late. Inside, the drawing room had feather sofas comfortable enough for naps and room for everyone, and we used the beautiful dining room every day as well as eating outdoors on the lawn. The kitchen is small but practical, with two fridges. Bedrooms are large and each has an en-suite bath. Our mother’s room and bathroom were on the main floor, with easy access and a safe, non-slip shower. The well-equipped movie room let us watch Wimbledon’s epic 2025 men’s finals as if we were in the Royal Box. We’re grateful to owner Aisling Law for all her kindness, including arranging two delicious celebration dinners made by her brilliant chef daughter. I can’t remember another vacation place where we relaxed and recharged so completely. Stay a good while, or you may really regret leaving too soon.

The grounds are spectacular, and the house itself is stunning. We had a fantastic weekend at Rossnaree House, with ages in our group ranging from 13 to 70, and everyone gave it five stars. Our lovely host Aisling arranged for us to use the pizza oven and BBQ pit, which made an already great weekend even better. Thank you, Aisling.

Aisling was gracious and nearby whenever we needed something, while giving us plenty of space. We spent a long weekend at this fabulous house, with a little touch of Downton Abbey about it. The grounds are just as impressive, from the pizza stove tucked away in the forest to the BBQ pit out back, and those views too. We’re all looking forward to coming back to this slice of heaven.

The candle-lit breakfast was fantastic, fresh and tasty, and Aisling and her helpers made us feel completely at home. Four of us stayed for two nights and loved the beautiful, atmospheric house and gardens. Every so often a parade of geese passed by against the lovely countryside backdrop. It was all very relaxing, and a real credit to owner Aisling. Thanks again, and hopefully we can visit soon. John and Kieran, Ranelagh, Dublin.

The views from the house are breathtaking, and Slane and Donore are only a short drive away. We’ve just had an idyllic weekend in this early 18th-century historic house, which is full of Irish history, art, sculpture, family heirlooms, and antiques. It’s a genuinely historic building where families have lived for hundreds of years. Inside, it was cosy and warm, with welcoming log fires in both the drawing and dining rooms, and breakfast was fine dining at its best. The proprietress lives on the property and is an absolute gem. She went above and beyond to welcome us and patiently answered my endless questions about her great-grandmother Maud Gonne with real generosity of spirit.
