Meeting the owners, Amanda and Austin, was a real pleasure. They were warm and genuine, and manager John Dunne was welcoming and attentive too. Andrea and her team were fabulous, with special thanks to Bridget and Medwin. We loved the delicious food and excellent service, and the castle’s ancient charm inside and out made it feel like another world. Such a peaceful place to unwind. Thanks to everyone, we’ll definitely visit again!

We had a great time in the garden bar, especially on Friday evening when it felt casual and relaxed. The bedrooms were spacious and really comfortable, and breakfast was fresh, hearty, and generous. The restaurant was the highlight, The Barton Rooms was first class, with delicious, beautifully presented dishes and attentive, professional service in warm, characterful surroundings. Having dinner in the castle’s own dining room made it feel like a special occasion. Baberstown Castle was fantastic value for money, and we’ll definitely be back.

Come early if you stay here, the grounds are truly gorgeous. The castle and its grounds are beautiful, and there’s a lovely restaurant. Service was five-star from reception through breakfast and dinner, and the restaurant staff were attentive and professional. I did have two small complaints: the bed was a bit soft and the mattress probably needs replacing soon, and the whisky pour at the bar wasn’t full even though I paid the full price.

I came back to Barberstown Castle for the second year around New Year and found it cosy, with the old-style Christmas trees and decorations. The bedrooms are very spacious, and the four coaster beds are lovely. Some rooms could use updated decor. I enjoyed the hot breakfast, though the cold buffet was disappointing and could do with more choice. A lovely stay overall.

I loved photographing at Barberstown Castle. Its character and history, lovely light, and rich, romantic backdrops make it an incredible place to photograph. The gorgeous grounds add to the warm, welcoming feel. The staff are kind, organised, and a pleasure to work with, so the day runs smoothly. I’d highly recommend it to couples looking for a timeless, romantic wedding venue. Deirdre Deirdre Rusk Photography
