Kee's Hotel

We left feeling exhausted and disappointed, and would have gone home on arrival if we hadn't been unable to find somewhere else. We booked two nights in an accessible room because my friend uses a wheelchair. Room 210 wasn't suitable: the shower was a small glass cubicle, about 4 by 2 feet, with a four-inch lip to get over. A wider doorway, one grab rail by the toilet and a light folding shower seat don't make it accessible. My friend couldn't get into the shower, and the staff agreed. When I lowered the shower chair, its left stabiliser came off. I had to wash my friend by hand that evening, which was awkward for both of us. I had asked for an accessible room in my email; after I showed it to Roisin, one of the managers, she agreed room 210 wasn't suitable, though she'd initially said it was wheelchair accessible. They tried to find a nearby hotel, but it was full. We were offered the option of staying one night, with dinner charged at €150 and €100 refunded for the second night. Roisin did try her best, and we were given complimentary drinks with dinner. The fish batter was raw inside. We were too tired to make an issue of it, asked for our desserts to be brought to the room, and they did that. The car park was no use to us because it's a walk from the hotel. Street parking was offered, but it's on the busy N15 and didn't seem safe. Traffic on the road, including trucks, kept passing just about 10 feet from the window through the early hours, so sleep was out of the question. The beds were hard, the rooms dated and in need of modernising, a lampshade was broken, and the TV was too small to watch from bed. The interior also looks very dated. Breakfast was the usual self-service buffet, but there was no potato bread or soda bread, the food was only half warm, the bain maries were empty, and there was no scrambled egg or mushrooms. There was even a snail inside our window. I've added photos on TripAdvisor because I can't post them on Google Reviews. Kees hotel shouldn't describe its rooms as disabled or wheelchair accessible if someone can get a wheelchair into the room but can't use the shower.

There's more to the hotel than you can see from the front, including terraces, outdoor seating and dining areas, and a parking lot at the back. The beds are bigger than most, US king size, and mine was VERY comfortable, a welcome change. Staff were courteous, and the restaurant food was good. Reservations are recommended, though easy to make. It's an older place, but I'd definitely book a longer stay next time.

Vicky and the team really look after their customers. It's a family-run business that clearly cares, and I'd recommend the hotel to all my family. They've all stayed and never had a bad word to say.

We got a good deal for Sunday and Monday night, so it was good value. The food was excellent, and the staff friendly and professional. The hotel was clean and tidy, though a little dated.
