We came in because the pub is known for pool and darts, but apparently darts weren’t available, despite there being two dartboards. I found that hard to believe. The regulars also didn’t seem keen on newcomers, so it wasn’t a welcoming place to walk into. My friends and I were asked for ID, which was no problem, and we showed we were all over 18. Then the bartender took back the drinks she’d just served, saying she didn’t trust that we were old enough and that we were acting strangely. I found that insulting. That’s just how I act, and she had clear proof of our ages. The owner then asked us to prove it again. We did, and were told to leave. It felt like we were kicked out for being over 18 but not 60 like the other customers.

Lovely pool tables and a jukebox, plus friendly locals and bartenders who are up for the ball hopping. A top place and well worth stopping by.

People nearly came to blows over which channel the TVs should be on.

We stopped in on the Tuesday and Wednesday of our break in Westport. I enjoyed having all the racing on TV, and this was the cheapest pint we found in town at €5. The locals and barmaid were friendly too. Highly recommend it, and I hope to visit again.

A lovely traditional bar, though the men’s toilets really need a lot of work. I can’t speak for the ladies’.
