Tzefania Hotel

We liked the friendly staff, the comfortable bed, and the roomy space with a fridge, microwave, and kettle. They gave us a voucher for a free special dish at a nearby restaurant, and after we mentioned the shower problem, the service was very good and they offered a breakfast voucher as compensation. The shower had no hot water in the evening or the next morning, and the bathroom door was hard to close. The AC worked inconsistently. Thin curtains let light in all night and into the morning, and the room was a bit noisy. Also keep in mind that the neighborhood is extremely Orthodox, and women are expected to be fully covered, which may feel uncomfortable for some people.

The garden was beautiful, and the eclectic decor gave the place a distinct character. After exploring nearby sites, it was a relaxing place to return to. We appreciated the history and attention to detail throughout Tzefania Hotel, and would recommend this hidden gem to anyone visiting Jerusalem.

Geula is an ultra Orthodox neighborhood, right in the heart of a part of the city that stays awake. There are bus stops close by, and you can walk to everything. The rooms are clean, with funky decor, and though they're small, they're comfortable. Bathrooms are even tighter, which makes sense for a hotel in the city center. Ask if they have a room with a little porch, or mirpeset.

The Shuk is a short walk away, and the Old City takes a bit longer on foot. The neighborhood is Orthodox, so plan your clothing with that in mind. There's a bus stop just steps from the entrance. My room was spacious and very clean, with two beds, a table and chairs, a kitchenette, bathroom, and a balcony with seating. Beds were made and towels changed every day. On Shabbat, staff left a fresh loaf of bread with a kind note. Guests can use the on-site washer and dryer, and there are plenty of snacks in the lobby each day. Staff were very helpful.
