The service and location were great, but the private room was a letdown. We booked it for four nights in advance and regretted it as soon as we saw it. It was dusty, and the bed was so firm that I had excruciating back pain throughout all four days. They could get a good bed for around 6 to 7K online in a day, yet they didn’t even try. That felt like taking a consumer for granted, especially after charging us a considerable amount. A good bed was the least I expected. The window AC from the 2000s didn’t help either. People looking for a private room can find one at a better price, with better facilities and even a better location. I absolutely don’t recommend the private rooms here. I’m not a first-time traveler. I’ve been a nomad for more than 8 years and lived and travelled across India and South East Asia. I’ve seen exceptional hostels at lower prices. I don’t know why our hostels are like this. After travelling far and wide, seeing these conditions for the price they charge hurts more.

The day tour to the border ceremony was better than I expected and worth joining. Our guide, Vikki, did a very good job, sharing interesting stories and a few jokes that kept the trip from getting boring. The hostel also provided excellent service, and I appreciated being allowed to check in early. You deserve my five-star review. Other foreigners planning to cross the border should know that it’s currently closed. I was turned back at the border.

Vicky made my trip more memorable with his kindness and the unusual experiences he arranged. He also organized the Wagah Border program and gave us detailed information about Amritsar. The hostel itself was great, with friendly staff and very clean facilities.

Madpackers Amritsar was clean and comfortable, and the common areas were kept in good shape. I especially liked how easy it was to meet other travelers there. The staff were friendly and helpful with local suggestions, and the Golden Temple is very close by. A strong choice for backpackers and solo travelers in Amritsar.

The India–Pakistan border ceremony was one of the most memorable parts of our tour, and Vicky helped us understand why it matters and get through everything smoothly. He was attentive and friendly throughout, and clearly cares about giving people a good experience. At Madpackers, Vicky brought the history of each place to life. He explained the stories, culture, and meaning behind the temples instead of simply taking us to see them. His knowledge and enthusiasm made it all engaging and easy to follow. I’d recommend the tour, especially with Vicky, if you want a deeper understanding of the places you visit.
