Casa Anjuna

The outside setting is what earned the five stars from me. It’s a peaceful, quiet resort in Anjuna where you can be surrounded by nature. I hope that same care reaches the rooms. The operations need work: the AC was noisy, the mattress was broken, and the minibar was empty. Even in a freshly made room there was no shampoo, shower gel, hair dryer, or toilet paper. Staff were friendly and helpful once we raised these issues, but some of those basics should already be there. It needs more professional management, if the owner wants that.

The location in Anjuna is excellent, and the hotel is a beautiful old Portuguese style property with tastefully decorated rooms. But upkeep and service need attention. Housekeeping wasn’t properly trained, and unless you chased the team, the room wasn’t cleaned well. The rooms show their age, with noisy AC, poor cupboards, and a geyser that only gave lukewarm water. Wi-Fi didn’t work in the rooms, so I had to look around the property for a decent connection. Breakfast started only at 8:30, which is late for early risers, and the limited choice was fruit, juice, eggs, and one Indian main. It was the same again if you stayed more than two days. The place looks lovely, but room maintenance, housekeeping, and breakfast all need sorting out.

It’s a shame, because the hotel is in a great spot and looks lovely. The spring mattress was worn and lumpy, and the bedding was really uncomfortable. There wasn’t a top sheet, so I had to ask for one at 10 p.m. I also found a mud nest stuck to the curtain with insect larvae inside. That’s completely unacceptable in a hotel room.

My partner came across the property by chance on a travel site, and it turned out to be a gem. The grounds felt peaceful and close to nature, and the pool was large. Our room was clean, well maintained, and calming. Service was prompt and courteous. Sameer, the manager, was helpful, and the owner kindly checked in about our stay and the service. I’d recommend it.
