The pond view is the one thing this property has going for it. The furniture was the worst part: much of it is wooden and full of termites, which I could see crawling on the furniture and even the bed. It felt disgusting and unhygienic. The rooms also need maintenance. The old AC takes ages to cool things down, there’s no WiFi in the rooms, and the toiletries were below average, just cheap shampoo with no basic body wash. Reception and housekeeping were rude and unhelpful, and even simple requests took forever. Outside food and drinks aren’t allowed, but the hotel’s own food and liquor choices are very limited and not worth the price. If all you want is the pond view, maybe consider it. Otherwise, completely avoid this place.

I stayed for five days and loved the peaceful greenery and natural views. Waking up to that scenery each morning was a highlight, and the relaxed, homely feel made it easy to switch off. The kitchen team really made the stay. Yuvraj, Melvin, Johnny and their smart manager Platini were attentive and friendly, and went out of their way to make every meal right. It felt like they genuinely looked after us. A lovely Goan getaway, and I’ll definitely be back.

Resort Marinha Dourada is in Arpora, a quieter base that’s still close to North Goa’s beaches and other sights. Baga Beach is about a five-minute shuttle drive and is known for water sports and shacks. Calangute is nearby too, for swimming and sunbathing. Anjuna and Vagator are a short drive north, with scenic views, Chapora Fort, nightlife, and flea markets. For shopping, there’s the seasonal Saturday Night Market in Arpora, with food and live music as well, and the Anjuna Flea Market, known for handicrafts, jewelry, and souvenirs, which runs on Wednesdays. Fort Aguada is a well-preserved 17th-century Portuguese fort and lighthouse with panoramic sea views. Chapora Fort, also known as the 'Dil Chahta Hai' fort, looks out over Vagator Beach and is popular for sunsets. Tito's Lane in Baga is the North Goa clubbing hub, including Tito's and Mambo's. The resort’s Standard Rooms are generally spacious, around 400 sq ft, with a simple, comfortable style. Each has a private balcony or sit-out area, and most look over the private lakes or the pool and gardens. In-room features include AC, satellite TV, a minibar or fridge, wardrobe, work desk, and an en-suite bathroom with shower and toiletries. Free Wi-Fi is available, though it’s often said to work best near reception. The quiet view is a welcome place to unwind after a day at the busy beaches.

It’s a large, older property, but it’s been maintained well. I came on someone’s recommendation, and the restaurant was good. On the first day, the mosquito repellent, kettle, and toiletries were missing. They brought everything when I asked, but the basic amenities should already be in the room, especially for guests arriving at night who may not want to ask. Breakfast could also use more options. The other things were all good.
