Hotel Shankar Shree

We were touched by how helpful they were, even though we weren’t staying at the hotel. First, they let my male partner use the washroom when we were passing through. Later, when we needed dinner but were short on cash and had no mobile network, they offered their Wi-Fi so we could try paying online and told us not to worry about the money. When the online payment still wouldn’t work, they let us have some credit. The food was fresh and tasted home-cooked. It was near zero degrees that evening, and they also offered hot water for drinking and washing our hands.

The staff are usually nearby and quick to help, and their greetings and guidance made the hospitality feel warm. The restaurant has a very good menu and the food tasted great. It stays open until 11 pm and opens again at 6:30 in the morning. They’ll also bring tea to your room if you ask.

The room was in very poor condition, especially the washroom, and the service was hopeless. There was no water in the room, the intercom didn’t work, the jug handle and kettle lid were broken, and there were no tea bags. Since I couldn’t use the intercom, I had to go down around 30 stairs to ask staff for water and tea bags. We stayed on 16th May, and there was no tariff board displayed. The manager charged Rs9500 for one day, though the website rate was Rs 8000. A hopeless place to stay in Badrinath.

There are plenty of other hotels in Badrinath, and I’d book one of those. Here, the room was so small that with our luggage inside there was no room to walk. The washroom doors were tin, the bed linen was extremely bad, and the flat TV didn’t work. A really bad experience.
