Service was good, but I'm a regular customer and the food standard has dropped a lot. I had lunch today: they served pumpkin sambhar in two portions, Arabi sabji??, and pickle that was soaked through.
6/10
This rating is just for the food. We got idly, vada, and dose. The idly and vada were good, but the dose was very bad, served cold and much too oily. Maybe we came at an odd time, or maybe that's how it usually tastes. Expect some waiting, though there's plenty of parking for cars and bikes.
8/10
Only praise for the food, and the staff were polite, smiling, and caring. The restaurant gets super busy in the morning. On my first visit to the city, I stayed at ballal and had a pleasant time. The food was amazing. Try benne dosa.

There's an old-time charm here, with simple, good South Indian food and really warm service. The place needs much better maintenance, though, and upkeep is lacking. It's decent if you like the nostalgic feel and don't mind the worn surroundings.

It felt like a home away from home, with good food and service. Shankar at the front office was very helpful, and the staff were friendly and polite. A great place to stay.
