Svenska Design Hotel, Bangalore

I booked five rooms for three days for guests who had flown from Mumbai to Bangalore for the first time. From the day I booked, front desk staff Waseem and his senior manager Dinesh troubled me over every single thing, kept asking for extra money, and wouldn't listen to requests. They were extremely rude to me as a woman. The day we booked the first night on an online portal, we went to check the hotel. Dinesh argued with us for twenty minutes, insisting he wouldn't provide an extra bed unless we paid. We kept telling him we'd already paid online for an extra bed, but he wouldn't listen or check the booking, and rudely said we had to pay extra for a child's bed. My husband had to rebook and show him that the extra bed was for three adults. Then Dinesh understood and calmed down. They said rooms were available but wouldn't let me check in at 10 o'clock unless I paid 2500 per room for two hours of early check-in. They didn't explain this politely and were extremely rude. I don't know how hotels hire such unprofessional people. A Lemon Tree is right next to this hotel, and its staff are extremely polite. Even if they can't fulfill a request, they explain kindly that it's outside their control, something I couldn't expect from these two.

We booked about six rooms for a two-night shoot with our crew at Svenska Bangalore, but the problems started right away: cold, stale food, fungus in the water kettle, dirty linens and towels, and cockroaches in the bathroom. We had also left our car with the valet. The next day, just as we were about to leave, we found a nail in the tyre. We were lucky to spot it, but the hotel took no responsibility. The car was a luxury car, so replacing the tyre cost us a lot, and the hotel did nothing to help. Manager Mr Ayush Arora didn't even have the basic courtesy to call us. After we explained what we'd gone through, they still demanded we pay a 1500/- room service bill and charged it to our card. I can't believe people in hospitality think this is what hospitality means. Shame on you, Svenska! I don't usually review brands or hotels like this on google, but this experience was traumatising.

The only reason I can give even 1 rating is the courteous staff. The restaurant was full of mosquitoes, the bathroom curtain blinds were broken, and the hotel charged extra for an extra bed on top of what make my trip had already charged for the same set of occupants.

The service is top notch, but the food wasn’t that great. For what they serve, it feels a bit overpriced.
