The Chevron Hotel

Handy for seeing the city, with major landmarks close by, and the staff were courteous and helpful. The rooms are roomy and nicely designed, so it works for a short business trip or somewhere to sleep between outings. The food was less convincing: breakfast was just okay and had plenty of misses, and we didn't like what we ordered from the restaurant, so we got food elsewhere. Room upkeep also needs a lot of work.

The rooms are okay, but breakfast isn't made again once it runs out at 9 a.m. There are no bathroom slippers, and when room service brings food, they ask for payment right away. It's a vegetarian hotel, and the only soap I saw was a small Medimix bar. I didn't ask about shampoo, and there wasn't any. I'd rather pay 200 more for a better hotel, so I'd avoid this one.

We had a lovely family meal here. The buffet had plenty of choices, the desserts were delicious, and the cake was just right, not overly sweet. The ghee rice was a little oily. The place has a wonderful feel, and service was excellent: they cleared the table straight after each course. A great spot for family occasions.

We held our son's birthday in the event hall, which was being renovated when we booked. They said it would look good once finished, but the flooring still had visible gaps, and I wasn't keen on the decor. The buffet started out slow, then service picked up. The food was good, served hot, and replenished regularly.
