The worst part was the price. We took two rooms on the first floor and paid ₹1300-₹1500 for AC rooms listed online at ₹500-₹700. When we asked about it, the manager said they don’t honor online bookings, even though the rooms appear on booking platforms. That felt dishonest. The place has decent interiors, but they’re badly neglected. The walls were damp, the wallpaper was peeling or worn away, and dust covered cabinets that looked untouched for ages. There were no hangers or table in the room. The bathrooms were miserable too: the health faucets didn’t work, the taps and basins were dusty, and the buckets and mugs looked as if they’d never been washed. Cleanliness was worse than a budget lodge. This hotel should be flagged for poor hygiene and misleading listings. Definitely not recommended.

They first gave me a room with an AC that didn’t work, then said it sometimes fails and I’d have to adjust. After I complained, I was moved to a room that was already occupied. The next room they gave me was in a construction site. I was also asked for extra cash at check-in because, they said, the online charge I had paid was too low. Drinking water was unhygienic, and there were no washroom supplies. One night I got back after midnight and found the main door locked. They said it would only open the next day. After I asked several times, they let me in with a warning. Disgusting service and pathetic staff. Worst hotel experience I’ve had.

I booked Hotel Mangalam Palace (OYO) in Bhopal for an exam, and the stay turned into one of the worst experiences of my life. While I was on a train from Lucknow, I messaged to ask them to have the room ready, but got no response. I called several times and nobody answered. After the long journey, the staff were rude and refused to check me in unless I paid more, saying the OYO booking rate was too low and would mean a loss for them. I said I’d consider paying more if there was a valid reason, but they kept stalling. They eventually took me to a room under construction, with open wires hanging everywhere. It felt extremely unsafe. I switched on the AC to rest, and someone turned it off within five minutes. When I asked why, they demanded more money again, even though I had booked an AC room. I called the OYO helpline, and they tried to help, but the hotel staff refused to speak with them. They shouted, yelled, and intimidated me like local goons, and I genuinely felt unsafe. The AC only went back on after OYO sent them a complimentary amount. The room had no amenities and wasn’t cleaned even once. On the second day there was no electricity, and although the hotel had backup power, they didn’t turn it on. The place felt unsafe and unhygienic, with dangerous wiring around the room. When I asked for drinking water, they gave me an already-opened bottle that tasted horrible and said they had no sealed bottles. I had no other option and drank it. Now I’m suffering from severe diarrhoea. The water didn’t seem RO-treated and clearly didn’t feel safe. This was completely unprofessional and felt like a scam. Please do not book Hotel Mangalam Palace under any circumstances. I’m sharing this so others don’t go through what I did, especially people travelling alone or for something important like an exam.

After reaching the hotel with my family, I had a very disappointing experience. The owner asked for extra money. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

They charged me 1,800₹ for one and a half days in an AC room, but there wasn’t a pool even though they told me there was. My experience was very bad. Please don’t go there, that’s my humble request.
