Hotel Tathagat

For a Buddhist pilgrimage, this was convenient and sufficiently satisfying at a very reasonable price. It’s in the market, opposite the Mahabodhi temple, with about 8-10 other temples nearby.

Why insult the Tathagata and his reputation by giving the hotel that name? The owner can't be a Buddhist. Buddhists, think about it before you go.

We could easily reach the main temple from this conveniently located hotel. The stay itself was very disappointing. Our room smelled mouldy and was poorly maintained, with cockroaches all over. We even saw a rat run through the hallway. The slippers were old, the blanket smelled, and the bathroom towels looked heavily used. We'd booked two nights online, but at check-in the reception staff had an unpleasant attitude, kept asking different questions, and seemed to be trying to add extra charges. No one attended to the rooms or provided room service during our two-night stay. The hotel's overall condition badly needs upkeep. We wouldn't recommend it.

Parking is on the street in front of the hotel, but it felt safe. The food was good, the staff professional, and the rooms clean and comfortable. Mahabodhi temple is just a stone's throw away, and I felt I got good value for the money. It was a good stay, and I'd choose it again next time I'm here.
