Hotel Sonajhurir Adda - Shantiniketan

Our Bengali meals were a highlight, flavorful, authentic, and really satisfying. The staff were courteous and attentive, and the spacious, tastefully decorated rooms compared well with good properties across India. Set right by the serene Kopai River, Sonajhurir Adda made a relaxed weekend getaway. My sister and brother-in-law were visiting Kolkata, so we planned a short holiday together in Shantiniketan. I’d studied at Visva-Bharati and was returning after nearly three decades, feeling both nostalgic and curious. After reading excellent reviews, I wanted an above-average place to stay, and I’m glad we chose this one. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip and I’m sure we’ll stay at Sonajhurir Adda again next time. To the Sonajhuri Adda team, keep up the fantastic work!

The food needs significant improvement. If the team can bring out pure, authentic Bengali flavors, this resort could become one of the best in its category. Still, staying here was delightful. The rooms were well maintained and had luxurious amenities, the service was commendable, and it’s a great place to relax and recharge. The resort captures the spirit of Shantiniketan, “shantir khoje shantiniketan, a stay in nature and serenity.”

The peaceful setting by the Kopai river, with lovely views and nature all around, is the main draw at Sonajhurir Adda. The rooms are modern and clean, though at this price I expected basics like a fridge. The pool, good restaurant, and nice breakfast buffet were all fine. Service and policies could be more guest friendly. I found the resort quite money-minded: they wanted to charge for drinking water and at first didn’t want to provide aquaguard water, which made the facilities seem designed to bring in more money. Housekeeping stops after evening, and even a one-hour late checkout costs extra.

The standout for me was how thoughtfully the place was looked after. We stayed in a duplex, and the whole property had a lovely aesthetic. The rooms and linen were clean, and the breakfast selection was much better than what I usually see elsewhere. Lunch was good too, we ordered the standard vegetarian thali. Manik babu was very courteous and even paid special attention while we were eating. Battery operated karts can take guests around the property. I’d happily visit again.
