Hotel Grand City

I was staying here for four days while taking exams, and as a woman travelling alone I felt unsafe. The street has tyre shops with male workers and labourers, and I felt uncomfortable with the stares whenever I left the hotel, in either direction. The building is cramped, badly ventilated and not soundproof, so you can hear people talking in the next room. Cigarette and alcohol smells filled the place, with lots of noise and disturbance on the floor. The male receptionist gave me criminal vibes. I called the owner to explain that I was alone and very uncomfortable, and asked for a refund for my four-night stay because I couldn’t manage even one day there. I expected him to hear my safety concerns, but he hung up without listening. The videos clearly show people speaking loudly and using abusive language. If you’re a woman on your own, please don’t book this hotel.

The owner was much more customer-friendly than the manager, who was rude and unhelpful. Cleaning was poor, the sheets were dirty, and the blankets smelled. The so-called free Wi-Fi didn’t work in the rooms, and other guests mentioned cockroaches. Rooms are extremely small, and only two out of ten have a window. If you’re claustrophobic, don’t book here.

The area was noisy throughout, so the stay wasn’t as peaceful as I’d expected. I booked because airport pickup and drop-off were offered, and told reception the day before I was travelling back. Still, no vehicle had been arranged the next morning. Even after the complaint was escalated, the owner, who was at the hotel, didn’t come out. When things got worse, they arranged a two-wheeler instead.

The receptionist was drunk during working hours, and it wasn’t peaceful at all. The rooms don’t block much noise, and it’s not worth the price. If you’re looking for an affordable hotel in Chandigarh, please consider one of the many nearby options instead.
