Palette - The Slate Hotel

I’d been staying here for over a year and it used to be excellent. Since the management and staff changed recently, the service has gone downhill. Even with a confirmed booking, check-in means a long wait, and there’s no clear communication or apology. Prices seem to vary depending on who’s at reception, which feels unfair and unprofessional. By the end of the day the service is extremely poor. No one listens to concerns or takes responsibility, and basic customer issues get ignored. It’s disappointing to see a place that used to be reliable become such a bad experience. I’ll reconsider staying here and can’t recommend it anymore.

The location is convenient, with everything close by, but the stay was awful. The first room had water leaking from the AC and a strange smell. It took five hours from my request before I finally got a towel. After a room change, the heater in the new room didn’t work, and we saw cockroaches too. The place was very unhygienic, with no hotel toiletries except for a small bar of soap. It feels like they started out trying to make a good hotel and then ran out of money to maintain it. Seeing the location made it seem like a steal, but it was too good to be true. The worst experience I’ve had in Chennai.

We left at midnight with our toddler because the conditions were so poor, then booked another place and checked in around 1:00 AM. It was extremely stressful and inconvenient. The beds were stained and smelled strongly of vomit. The faucets didn’t work properly, and being in the same building as a pub meant loud noise well past midnight. This isn’t suitable for families, or honestly for anyone. The Google photos and reviews are misleading, so check carefully before booking.

There was no hot water, and the room looked completely different from the photos. It had no basic amenities, cleanliness, or comfort. Absolutely terrible, not worth a single star, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
