The Pride Hotel Chennai

We booked two rooms for 25 Jan 2026. The rooms were dirty, old and smelly. The bathroom sink was broken, the shower didn't work properly, and the sheets and towels seemed ten years old. We reached around 8 PM, and the lobby and reception were so dark it felt like midnight. The receptionist looked exhausted, with no smile or greeting, very much like typical government office service. Breakfast was basic, like you'd expect at a budget hotel, and there was nothing within walking distance.

We hold banquets here, and I've noticed Mr Umasankar taking more ownership of the service. When we point out a gap, he gets it resolved quickly and stays polite. I appreciate that, and hope the improvement continues. The Senate conference venue still needs renovation for a top-notch experience. Its door squeaks, the hall smells, and the space feels dark. I've also repeatedly had trouble with the stay room door key access and usually need help from staff on the floor.

The night shift service was shockingly poor. Staff used rude language and seemed untrained, with no clear structure or professionalism. The hotel appears to have too many people on the night shift, yet nobody seems accountable. One of the worst examples of hospitality I've experienced.

Everything else was nice, but the hotel needs renovation. My experience was decent for a 5k room, though the place looked old and unmaintained. I'd rate the stay three stars or less on that basis. With renovations, it could be a proper 4-star hotel.
