Grand Ayur Island

The food was good, and the staff were friendly and polite. But the property wasn’t maintained well, so it didn’t feel worth what we paid. The pool water was green and you could barely see the tiles. The kettle and hair dryer in the room didn’t work, and the walking area looked like it hadn’t been cleaned for at least a month. There weren’t enough staff either, with one person handling everything.

The food arrangements were poorly managed, and the food itself wasn’t good. Service was very poor too. It was a disappointing experience.

The backwater setting is beautiful, with views that make you want to slow down and take in the scenery. We booked the whole Grand Ayur Island Resort for a family get-together, and although the stay had some hiccups, the people looking after us were warm. Sriraj was especially patient and attentive, and the chef made satisfying meals that brought everyone together. When we visited, the property was changing management and was being run by Mannath Group International. Renovations were underway, some facilities were still a work in progress, and the resort seemed a little short on staff. The team still did their best to make us comfortable. I’d consider coming back after the renovation work is finished, since the location and the staff made a good impression despite the unsettled state of things. The boat ride around the island was one of the best parts of our stay at Grand Ayur. There were five of us, and we had a great time. The rooms were well kept, and we could use the pool late in the evening. The staff were friendly, Joshi the caretaker was easy to approach and always ready to help, and thanks to chef Babychen, the food was mind blowing. Weekdays seem best if you want fewer people around. The whole island and resort worked well for our two families. We’d be happy to come back.
