Hotel Akshaya

The rooms felt old and poorly maintained, and the AC rooms had cockroaches and other pests. The bathroom had no glass shower enclosure, despite what the website photos suggest, so don't rely on those pictures. The hotel charges premium rates per night without breakfast, and it didn't feel worth the money. In the room, facilities were basic: hot water, an intercom, and AC in some rooms, but no kettle or tea and coffee setup. Hotel Akshaya is on East Car street in the same building as the A2B restaurant, above it, though it is a separate business and isn't related to A2B. The location is convenient, about a five-minute walk from the East Tower entrance of Arulmigu Thillai Natarajar Temple, and there's vehicle parking. Management needs to make corrections soon.

For temple visitors, the best part is how close Akshaya Hotel is to the East Gopuram entrance of the Chidambaram Nataraja Temple. We stayed one night, and the room was clean, decent, and well kept. The staff were helpful and courteous, and having the A2B (Adyar Ananda Bhavan) restaurant downstairs made meals easy. A practical, comfortable stay.

A2B Restaurant downstairs is the one good thing, and it doesn't belong to the hotel. The so-called deluxe rooms are just standard AC rooms, and the rates are very high. There are only two plug points, no kettle or tea and coffee sachets, no table or chairs, and no water from the bathroom shower. The rooms themselves are pathetic. The receptionist was arrogant, stubborn, and uncooperative. The photos are misleading. It was a horrible stay, and the worst room I've had after paying so much. Don't book unless there's no other option.

The location is handy, close to the East Tower of Chidambaram Nataraja Temple, and there's car parking. A2B restaurant is on the ground floor, and the staff and attendants were courteous. The hotel has large rooms with clean beds, and it does provide an electric kettle. But there were no cups, tea or coffee bags, milk, or sugar. Add those and it would deserve five stars.
