Hotel Pleasant Hill Residency

The rooms we found didn’t look like the ones online, and the place wasn’t kept up. We saw spiders and mosquitoes, one room’s geyser didn’t work, and another had no attached bathroom. When we arrived, the owner even told us not to bathe because water was scarce. It’s also far from Laal Baazar and M.G. road. For the same price, I’d choose another hotel. The Google maps photos don’t seem to show what it’s really like. Pleasant Hill is pleasant in name only.

This was a really bad experience with rude staff and what felt like harassment. The sheets seemed damp, and the water supply wasn’t reliable. Getting to M.G. Marg or the main city takes a 200/- taxi or a 25-minute uphill walk. We paid 2,800/- for two rooms and gave 2k in advance. The cash receipt listed two standard rooms with attached toilets. But during peak season in Gangtok, they apparently found customers willing to pay 4K per room, forgot our booking, and left seven of us with one storeroom turned into a room, without an attached toilet. When we showed the receipt, they behaved badly and said we could either make do or take our advance back. At 10.30 pm, tired from the journey and with our luggage, we had nowhere else to settle, so we stayed in the storeroom and paid 2,500/- in total.

There were six of us, and we were very happy with the care and welcoming atmosphere during our short stay. The early breakfast arrangements especially made it feel homely in Sikkim. We’d gladly stay here again on a future trip and recommend it to friends and family touring sikkim. Keep up the good work.

Breakfast was included, and the Aloo Paratha was amazing. The rooms were spacious and well looked after, and the family running Pleasant Hill Residency were helpful and accommodating. It’s down a steep hill in Gangtok, but a short taxi ride to the main square costs just 20 rupees.
