Hotel Royal Gangtok

The host and family made sure I was comfortable and welcomed me like one of their own. I especially enjoyed the fresh homemade food, including local dishes that gave me a taste of Sikkim. Ronglyang Homestay is set among lovely mountain views, away from the city noise, and the peaceful location was great for relaxing. My room was clean, comfortable, well maintained, and had all the basic facilities.

The owner was kind, polite, and always ready to help, and the fresh food was really tasty. Our room had a lovely view, and it was clean, comfortable, and well kept. We had a memorable, satisfying stay during our Gangtok trip and would recommend the place to other visitors.

We were extremely disappointed almost as soon as we arrived. The house was dirty, shabby, poorly maintained, and smelled strongly unpleasant. It looked nothing like the listing photos. The furniture was old and worn, and also misrepresented in those photos. The owners may once have furnished it nicely, but the current people leasing or managing it have let it become filthy and neglected. The host was polite and responsive, but we saw no sign of basic upkeep or investment in essentials like clean linens, working fixtures, curtains, or soap. We were told the sheets had been changed, but there was visible hair on them. We asked for fresh linens, yet the bed was still unacceptable. The bathrooms had no soap, only previously used bars. The toilet seat was broken and taped together, sink pipes were damaged and leaking water onto the floor, and the hand wash area didn't work. A broken window was covered with taped paper. Cleanliness overall was severely lacking. The remote location and poor access became especially distressing after our drop-off vehicle had left. At night our group was effectively stranded, with no transport to leave and no safe alternative accommodation. This seriously affected our vacation. We strongly advise future guests to book somewhere else and not stay here.

The view across the surrounding hills was breathtaking, and the free Wi-Fi made it easy to stay connected. Everyone at Ronglyang Lotus Homestay was welcoming and attentive. I had an amazing, peaceful stay and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet getaway.
