The main concern was getting there at night: the hostel is about 800 meters inside from the main road, and the steep slope or ghat road has no street lights, which can feel risky. The property itself felt safe and secure, and it's close to Kudle Beach, around 250 meters away. The staff were friendly, helpful, and ready to assist with anything. Rooms were spacious, clean, and comfortable, and the food at Myngl Food Court was very good. With proper street lighting, this would be perfect. We had a great stay at The Hosteller Gokarna.

The beach setting was the highlight: we could see the sea from our balcony and wake to the sound of waves. Evenings watching the sunset over the Arabian Sea were breathtaking, and Gokarna's peaceful surroundings made for a refreshing break from daily life. The hostel was clean, cozy, and well maintained, with thoughtfully arranged dorms and common areas that made it easy to meet other travelers, share stories, and plan beach walks or sunset outings. Staff were friendly and helped with local transport, nearby cafe suggestions, and directions to hidden spots along the coast. Their warm hospitality added to the stay. It was a lovely mix of comfort, a social atmosphere, and scenic beauty. I'd recommend it to anyone visiting Gokarna for a peaceful but social beachside experience.

Safety and customer service were major problems during my stay. There were no proper lockers or secure storage facilities, and guests were left responsible for their own belongings. Without secure door locks or app-based or personal lock systems for the dorms and lockers, it felt more like waiting at a railway station than staying in a hostel. When we asked for a lock, staff denied our request, so we had to buy one ourselves. Staff had time to knock on our door several times in 30 minutes to sell a paid activity, but nobody told us about locker locks. Please don't claim the security arrangements were clearly explained. My iron box went missing and was eventually found, and a staff member returned my T-shirt from the storeroom. If the team hadn't moved or misplaced anything, how did those items turn up? Staff entered dormitories while guests were away and put belongings elsewhere without telling their owners. They also pointed fingers at another guest who'd checked out that morning, without verifying anything. Is accusing guests without evidence part of The Hosteller's standard operating procedure? The night shift receptionist was extremely rude and unhelpful, giving us a poor first impression. After I raised these issues, I got a copy-paste response that dismissed them. The reply claimed everything was handled correctly and that my concerns "do not align with the circumstances recorded." Apparently, whatever the team records becomes the truth. My review reflects what actually happened, and that response confirmed to me that The Hosteller isn't interested in accountability. I've stayed at Zostel and GoSTOPS, where guest security is treated as a responsibility. They don't blame guests, ignore requests to check storage areas, or pick a suspect before gathering facts. If safety, security, and good customer service matter to you, consider somewhere else.

The in-house cafe was amazing, and using the glu app made everything hassle-free. We stayed for two days with our pets, and the team accommodated us with a balcony. The place is beautiful and has car parking.
