Rio Restotel Humming Bird

I booked through OYO and found the service excellent. The rooms were neat, clean, and larger than I expected. Towels, soap, shampoo, and the other listed amenities were provided. It’s a good hotel in the city overall.

Gonikopal is a major shopping center, so staying above the shopping complex puts almost everything nearby. Parking is limited, though, since customers of the complex use the same space. I didn’t try the hotel restaurant. For authentic Coorg food, I’d suggest Cuisine Papera. It’s on the pricey side, but worth one meal. The non AC rooms were in good condition, and at the time I had no booking issues with OYO like I’d had at some other places in Madikeri. I think it’s a good stay if you can get a non AC room for no more than ₹800 for two people or ₹600 for one. I paid ₹488 for one person for one night.

The hospitality was good, but the dirty bedspread had to be changed after I told them. There aren’t many options there, and the hotel was completely booked even during those Covid times. When we turned on our geyser, the current fluctuated in our room because other rooms were also using geysers for hot water, so we had to wait a while. Not bad, not good.

The hotel is new, but it hasn’t been maintained well. The person who received us wasn’t friendly. Our stained blankets were unhygienic, and although there was a TV, there was no setup box or power backup. We checked in at 4.00 AM and were still refused even ten extra minutes past 11.00 AM.
