The rooms are good for the price, and the reception staff were helpful. The hotel is in the main city, though it's tucked inside a narrow lane, so check the online rates and location before booking. If you're bringing a large four-wheeler, visit the place first. These are the rates I was quoted at Hotel shaswat: Standard was 2000 including tax, Deluxe was 2200, or 2000 with tax included, and Super Deluxe was 2500 with breakfast included. It may be worth a try if you're after a good hotel at a reasonable price in Gorakhpur.

The room had issues with both the AC and shower, and the lights kept going out. After I asked a couple of times, they moved me to another room. The hotel is set a little way in from the road, and outside there was a dead nonveg smell.

The hotel looks much better in its online photos than it does in person, so I don't know where the five-star ratings came from. It's in Golghar, the heart of Gorakhpur, but deep inside the lanes. Google Maps wasn't useful. We had to bring the car to Golghar and then walk around to find the lane where the hotel is. Inside, the rooms are so small it's hard to move around. The reception staff were good, but housekeeping was below average and didn't clean the room even after I told them. They also didn't provide dental kits or bathroom slippers, which I need when travelling for business. Breakfast was average and meant to start at 8.00 am, but it didn't arrive until after 8.45am. If you need to head out for work, don't count on eating here first. For the same amount, you can get a better hotel elsewhere in Gorakhpur. It wasn't worth what we paid.

I booked directly with the hotel and got a discounted price. Being in the market area was handy since everything was easy to find. My only issue was the lack of a lift. I can manage the stairs comfortably, but my mom has joint pain and would've had an easier time if there were one.
