Hotel The Silk Routee by OYO Rooms

I paid Rs. 1550/- a night for a room that I don't think was worth more than 500/-. I had booked through Fabhotel and called the number they sent to say I'd arrive around 8 pm and pay at the hotel rather than online. The staff said that was fine. But when my wife and I arrived, the receptionist called someone about an event booking in Guwahati, then said all the rooms had been taken and mine had gone to someone else because I hadn't paid online. He said he'd still treat us as customers and give us a room. The first room he showed us hadn't been cleaned after the previous guest. The next was tiny and dirty, and one of the staff had left their luggage in it. It was in a terrible state. With my wife, and most rooms in Guwahati booked for the event, I didn't go looking elsewhere then. The blanket covers looked like they hadn't been changed after checkout, as if they only tidied up. The toilet was surprisingly clean, though not spotless, and about what I'd expect from a hotel like this. Breakfast was included with the Fabhotel booking: four slices of bread, an omelette, and tea. They didn't ask whether we were vegetarian. Luckily we aren't, so we could eat the cold food after waiting there for about half an hour. I've stayed in only one worse hotel. If you need some space in your room, reconsider booking here. I attached photos to help people decide. There isn't a lower rating than one star, though I don't think the hotel deserves a rating. The problem isn't just the room. The staff should have told me earlier that they'd give it to someone else if another customer came along or paid more, then offer us a room we'd accept only because other places were full. Businesses need to make a profit, but not through unethical practices.

I stayed here for more than 10 days and really loved it. The complimentary breakfast was awesome, and the staff's friendly attitude stood out most. Most of them didn't know English, and I didn't know Hindi, but we managed to understand each other. They helped me arrange cabs, figure out routes and train and bus timings, and even use the internet on their computer.

The staff were the only good part, though most of the time they seemed helpless. They say vegetarian food is available, but there was no food. The hotel is close to railway lines, so trains kept me awake at night. And an executive suite without working AC? That's the funniest joke I've heard all year. I wouldn't recommend it.

Booked through OYO Rooms, and it felt like a complete rip-off. The hotel is very narrow and shabby. My room was clean, but rain got in and left the carpet soaking wet. Staff were rude, and breakfast was a ruse. Bad.
