Joyable Homestay

The service was good, but the owner's behaviour toward us wasn't up to the mark...

We stayed at Joyable Homestay in Kundil Nagar, Guwahati, for two nights. The balcony was beautiful and calm, the property site was easy to access, and the worker with the french cut beard behaved well, though I don't know his name. The housekeeper was polite. Apart from that, the experience was horrible. The room was ridiculously small, and the bathroom was even more cramped. The western toilet was right up against my knees, and the sink placement made it hard to stand comfortably. It felt like a public toilet, not a private homestay bathroom. The room lighting was poor during a power outage, with only 2 lights working, and there was no inverter connection for charging phones. I had to charge my laptop and phones at a restaurant. We checked out at 11 am on the morning of 17th Feb, then went to explore Guwahati city. Before leaving, we asked the housekeeper if we could leave our 2 trolley bags, and he kindly said yes. When we returned at 6:40 pm, we asked the owner politely if we could wait in the waiting room until 7:30 pm. Our bus was due to leave at 8:00 pm, and we had nowhere else to wait with our luggage. He flatly refused, threw us out, and demanded ₹1000 to let us stay in the waiting hall for just 30 minutes. After we'd already stayed there for 2 days, that felt extortionate and unreasonable. Before reading my review, look at the other one Star review. As an owner, he should acknowledge what people didn't like about his business, but instead he blames customers and comments sarcastically. His greed and arrogance were appalling. I don't understand how people give 5 ⭐, even after climbing to the 3rd floor without a lift while carrying their trolleys. This place isn't worth your money or time. If you value your dignity and hard-earned money, stay far away from Joyable Homestay. Look elsewhere for a decent place in Guwahati. This one's a definite no-go. Please have some Humanity. Ratings: 1/5 (and that's being generous). Advice: Look elsewhere.

The rooms were dim and uncomfortable, and the toilets were particularly dirty and unpleasant. The owner was rude and unhelpful, which made our already disappointing stay worse. It wasn't what we expected. We won't be returning or recommending it to others.

The property is around 300 metres from Basistha Chariali, within walking distance, and shops, facilities, and other amenities are easy to reach. The retired Tea Industry owner has kept and decorated it attractively. Staff were attentive and polite, and the rooms and bathrooms were cleaned daily. There's complimentary Jio Air wi-fi, plus a separate kitchen if you need one. Fresh food is prepared in-house and tastes good, with little or no spice or oil. They plan to install a lift in the near future. Visitors to Guwahati will find what they need here. I'd give it 4.5 stars.
