This was a distinctive, enjoyable three-day stay at The Wilderness Retreat, Kaziranga Elephant. The rooms are containers set among greenery, equipped with a bed, cupboard, fridge, TV, kettle, and a pleasant balcony or patio. The open-roof bathroom, with sky above and bamboo plants inside, was especially refreshing and unusual. The rooms were clean and well maintained, service was quick, and staff were courteous. We loved everything we tried, and the complimentary breakfast had a great spread and tasted amazing. There are activities such as horse riding, ATV rides, shooting, and paintball, and we spotted a few peahens. It seems suited to families and couples looking for a weekend away. Mosquitoes are plentiful in this jungle setting, though the property sprays repellents and supplies mosquito bats. Power cuts happened often; backup is available but takes time to start, so bring a phone or torch, especially for the open-air bathroom. The mattress and pillows caused backache, although they replaced the pillows when asked.

The cottage itself was on point, though not the pench room. We booked a pench at first, but couldn’t stay longer than two hours because of rats, so we were moved to kaziranga. There, it was calm, beautiful, and relaxing, just the getaway I needed. The birds chirping in the morning were so soothing. The staff were welcoming and very helpful. If you’re looking for a weekend escape, this is a great place.

For our anniversary, they put together a lovely private dinner deep in the forest, with candlelights and a bonfire. The food and ambience were great, and they even thought about the mosquitoes. Our stay was comfortable, with no bug or mosquito issues. We did hear some nearby construction, though we’d expected mostly nature sounds in a place like this, and it wasn’t really in their control. Breakfast was lovely too, especially the delicious Turkish eggs and refreshing fresh juice. Aman and Jitendra were warm and made us feel comfortable. It was a great experience at a warm, well-managed retreat.

Zero stars, they don’t even deserve one. My recent stay at The Wilderness Retreat fell far below what was advertised or promised. The room was highly unhygienic, with mosquitoes constantly inside throughout the stay. Even with doors and windows shut, they made it extremely uncomfortable and impossible to rest properly. It raises serious concerns about hygiene, pest control, and basic guest safety. A retreat should provide peace, comfort, and a healthy environment, but this stay was frustrating and uncomfortable, especially for the amount paid and the property’s reputation. Management, please take immediate corrective action on hygiene and pest control so other guests don’t face the same issues. I’d also appreciate a response explaining how this will be addressed. I hope you take this seriously and improve the guest experience. @fssaiindia, please ensure hygiene if stays like this are approved as public retreats.

The support staff were attentive and did their best to help make things more comfortable under difficult circumstances. Their professionalism was the one positive part of my stay at Sunderban, which I booked for 22/Nov/2025. The food was acceptable, though I felt it was significantly overpriced for its quality. With the premium charge of 12,980 rupees, the stay didn’t feel worth the cost. The room and adjoining washroom had a strong, offensive smell and a noticeable presence of bugs, insects, and rats, making them uncomfortable and unsanitary. Outside the room was a collection of dirty, foul-smelling water, adding to the unpleasant atmosphere. With the odors and unhygienic conditions, I could barely sleep that night. It was disappointing and didn’t meet basic standards for hygiene, comfort, or value.
