Sangpang Homestay

We planned to stay for 1 night and ended up staying 2. The views, quiet surroundings, food and the host’s hospitality made it a great experience, and the hosts were really nice. The homestay is a bit far from the city center, and getting a vehicle there isn’t easy. There isn’t much to browse in the city center anyway, though, so if you want a quiet place with good food and a great host, I strongly recommend staying here.

It’s on a hillside slope in Chhibo, and the route through the jungle on a cloudy, foggy day was a trip I’ll remember for a long time. The food options were excellent, and the caretaker lady made excellent Nepali cuisine. Evenings get chilly and windy, just right for hot coffee beside a bonfire. Getting up early to watch majestic Mt. Kanchanjungha at sunrise was fantastic. We really enjoyed our stay.

The location is good, with a view of kalimpong at night from the top room and balcony. Service was okay, but the room wasn’t so good. I visited during May June, and the insects coming from the nearby jungle, inside and outside the room, may irritate you.

The owner’s hospitality was very bad, and the food was disgusting. They charged extra for extra food, and the bed wasn’t very comfortable. Breakfast, lunch and dinner all had fixed times. Don’t visit this place again. A complete waste of money.
