Hotel Gagan

I stayed here for a few days recently, and there are a lot of things that need improvement. The room and bathroom lights weren't all working, so my wife had to use her phone light to get ready for a function. The intercom didn't work either. When we asked to have the bedsheet changed, the housekeeping boy got angry. Staff should also avoid eating Gutkha. There was no dedicated parking, so you have to find a spot on the road. The lift wasn't working and still hadn't been repaired by the time I left, and nobody seemed concerned about it. There are no handrails or grills along the stairs. If an older relative or a child slipped, there'd be nothing to grab onto and they'd certainly get hurt. I'm mentioning all this because when the charge is around 1000 per day, the services should match that.

I booked on February 15 for November 8 and paid an advance of 20,000. Before I paid, I wasn't given a cancellation policy or performance invoice, and after paying I wasn't given a receipt either. I called on February 22 to cancel because of an issue, but they said the advance was non-refundable. They wouldn't make an exception despite my repeated requests. I even asked to have the amount adjusted at one of their branches, but the manager refused. I was cancelling nine months ahead and asked them to deduct a cancellation fee and refund the rest, but they still said no. The front office staff were very rude. I don't want to book the property, please refund my money.

I visited in June 2025 and had the worst experience. The room was dirty, the bedsheet hadn't been changed, and there was no AC remote. The AC didn't work, and the fan wasn't working either. I had to check out that same day. Please never visit this hotel.

The manager’s food tip really made the stay for me. I was new to Kanpur and, during my five nights there, he suggested places to eat and visit. One evening, after I ordered a dish, he said I should try it at another popular food joint because they made it best, even though his own place was good. That small, genuine gesture won me over. The rooms are decent for the price, the staff are polite, and it’s a no-fuss place. The railway station took about 20 minutes by Uber in busy traffic. A comfortable, moderately priced option in Kanpur.
