Ferdin Cottage

The room at Hotel Ferdin Cottage was a mess from the start. The bedsheet and pillow covers were visibly dirty, with hairs all over the bed. When we politely asked the caretaker to replace the linens, he brushed us off with, “What should I do then? We will see at morning.” His response was rude, and he showed no concern for our hygiene or comfort. The bathroom doors were broken and barely worked, making things extremely uncomfortable and embarrassing. More generally, the property is clearly neglected and poorly maintained. This was one of my worst hotel stays, and a disastrous experience in Kanyakumari. I strongly advise others to look elsewhere and save themselves the stress and disappointment. At least the caretaker we dealt with was unhelpful and rude.

It’s a small resort, but it’s well maintained, in a prime spot that’s still away from the crowd. The good points were easy access to the sites, quiet surroundings, and good food. It was a good experience overall. A couple of things could be better: the rooms are pretty small, and the property isn’t as close to the beach as some pictures suggest. The tea and coffee we ordered with breakfast tasted very average and seemed to be made with powdered milk. They could serve better tea and coffee.

The room had some damaged interior, no dressing table or mirror in the bedroom, and no exhaust fans in the toilets. The staff behavior was appalling and unprofessional. We’d paid a hefty price for poolside rooms for a family of five, to celebrate my sister’s birthday. Just after check-in, the manager made a judgmental face when we said we were vegetarians on Monday. He later shouted at my family for turning on common area lights at 10 pm, saying we needed hotel permission even to touch switches after 9 pm. We explained we weren’t using the pool, but he kept scolding us about lights and citing unwritten rules. Given what they charge, that felt very cheap. I’d tell families looking for a good time to avoid this place. They’ll take your money and then insult you for making simple requests.

Everything felt just right, from the car parking and hospitality to the quick service. The ambiance was very nice, the rooms were well maintained, and the staff were helpful. An amazing stay. Loved this Ferdinand cottage.
